Two southern heavyweights have officially shaken hands on a massive four-player swap. Lighting up the IPL trade 2026 window after months of speculation around Hardik Pandya, Chennai Super Kings have pulled off an unexpected yet calculated coup.
CSK acquired English power-hitter Liam Livingstone at a bargain ₹6 crore (down from ₹13 crore) alongside Australian all-rounder Jack Edwards for ₹3 crore. In exchange, Sunrisers Hyderabad welcome back left-arm pacer Khaleel Ahmed alongside Australian quick Nathan Ellis, who departs Chennai after two injury-plagued seasons.

How Does this CSK-SRH Trade Benefit Both Teams
For Chennai Super Kings, who have spent the past two seasons searching for an experienced middle-order power hitter and match-winner capable of bowling a few overs, Livingstone fits the bill perfectly. He played handy cameos in RCB’s first title victory in 2025.
Livingstone provides CSK with the finisher they need; he is a flexible batter who can slot in anywhere from positions 3 to 7. Livingstone seeks redemption after a quiet IPL 2026, having previously scored 112 runs in RCB’s 2025 campaign. This IPL trade heavily strengthens CSK’s middle order, which had become a weak link following the departure of Ravindra Jadeja and the absence of MS Dhoni.
Jack Edwards serves primarily as a backup option to Jamie Overton. Overton will always be preferred over Edwards; however, as seen towards the back end of last season, Overton's injury disrupted the team combination. Having Edwards in the squad provides a like-for-like replacement. Edwards arrives uncapped in the IPL after a foot injury sidelined him in 2026, though he starred in BBL 2025-26 with 19 wickets and 133 runs.
The two main downsides for CSK are parting with two primary frontline pacers in their squad, especially Khaleel Ahmed, who, when fit and healthy, consistently delivers and strikes in the powerplay overs. Ellis, meanwhile, has barely featured over the last two seasons, which is the primary reason he was traded amid ongoing injury concerns.
For Sunrisers Hyderabad, this is a win-win situation. They needed bowling depth and secured it through Khaleel Ahmed, who can pair with Praful Hinge and Sakib Hussain to resolve their new-ball bowling duties. Khaleel brings proven pedigree after claiming 15 wickets for CSK in 2025, despite an injury-shortened 2026 season.
Nathan Ellis also bolsters Hyderabad's attack; despite missing IPL 2026 through injury, the Australian speedster boasts 58 T20I wickets, including a five-wicket campaign at the 2026 T20 World Cup, and will be key if Pat Cummins remains unavailable. Additionally, shedding Livingstone’s lucrative contract frees up valuable purse space ahead of the mini-auction.
