Sunrisers Hyderabad entered the auction with a huge purse of 34 crores and six players to pick. Entering the IPL Auction 2023 there was a lot of speculations and expectations from the fans and pundits on whom SRH might pick in the auction.
Sunrisers started on a good note by bagging Sri Lankan all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga for his base price of 1.5 crores. Hasaranga was part of Royal Challengers Bangalore for the last two seasons and he was released ahead of the auction this year. SRH were in desperate need of a spin bowling all-rounder to pair up with Washington Sundar. Hasaranga will be under the guidance of fellow Sri Lankan Muttiah Muralitharan.
The player of the year and the man of the match in the WTC and World Cup final, Travis Head was drafted by SRH for 6.8 crores. It was a steal for Sunrisers as the left hander can bat at the top and role his arm over with the ball. His arrival provides the much needed balance to the SRH squad.
Pat Cummins was the most unexpected buy the Orange army as they spent a whopping 20.5 crores for the Australian Captain. Cummins broke the record of Sam Currans to become the most expensive player for a while before his fellow countrymen Mitchell Starc surpassed him to become the most expensive player in the history of IPL. Cummins arrival strengthens the fast bowling unit of SRH and he also brings his leadership experience.
The most underrated and consistent player in the domestic cricket in India, Jaydev Unadkat was dropped by the Rajasthan Royals ahead of the auction and he lands at SRH. The other two players drafted by SRH are Akash Singh and Akash Maharaja Singh for their base price of 20 lakhs.
