Sydney Thunder Women had a horrible season in the 2022 Womens Big Bash League Season finishing at the bottom of the table with one win, ten losses in four matches. The Thunder had pretty good outing in the WBBL draft this season. The team management appointed Heather Knight as the new captain for the WBBL season 9.

Sydney Thunder signed four international top quality players with vast experience in the T20 format. Marizanne Kapp, Chamari Athapaththu and Heather Knight add the much needed depth to Sydney Thunder Women’s squad. Amongst the local players Sammy-Jo Johnson, Phoebe Litchfield, Lauren Smith and Tahlia Wilson are the top players to watch out for in the upcoming season.
The latest signing of Chamari Athapaththu has made the Sydney Thunder Women a title contender in the WBBL season 09. The two time WBBL champions last won a championship in the 2020-21 season of Womens Big Bash League.
The Thunder kick start their campaign against Sydney Sixers Women on November 22nd at the North Sydney Oval. It is going to be a tough challenge for Sydney Thunder Women as all the teams have acquired some of the best players in the world. If they can find the right combination and momentum they could be unstoppable in the season.

Lisa Keightley (Head Coach): Former Australian cricketer Lisa Keightley was appointed as the head coach of the Thunder Women. Keightley has experience of working as a head coach for national teams and it will be intresting to see the strategic approach of Keightley in the WBBL season 09.
Michael Klinger and Dan Christian (Assistant Coaches ): The most decorated and former champions in the BBL, Michael Klinger and Dan Christian will provide the much needed insights and support to Lisa Keightley.
