The Pretoria Capitals performed exceptionally well in the inaugural season of the Betway SA20 tournament and made it to the finals. This season, they will strive to make up for their loss in the previous year’s championship. The Capitals finished the group stage as the top team, winning 7 out of 10 matches and becoming the first team to qualify for the finals.
They had an impressive season, but unfortunately, one bad game in the finals cost them the championship. Despite this setback, the Centurions will continue to support their team in the upcoming season, even after the close loss in the finals.
The Pretoria Capitals were considered the favorites to win the first-ever Betway SA20 title. They had four players in the top 10 wicket takers of the tournament, with Anrich Nortje leading the table and Roelof van der Merwe (SEC) close behind. Will Jacks was the Capitals’ top run-getter, coming in at 6th place on the tournament list with 270 runs in just 7 innings.
Jacks had an impressive strike rate of 201.49 and an average of 38.57. He also hit the most sixes (19) out of any player in the season. Although the Centurion ground was known for being difficult to breach, the Capitals only gave up one win to Durban’s Super Giants, thanks to Heinrich Klaasen’s exceptional hundred.
Know Your Players
After an incredible season, the Capitals retained the likes of Will Jacks. Management will expect him to replicate the game he played in season 1, again this year. Philip Salt and Kusal Mendis might take out their “A” game this season. Especially, with Philip Salt moving to 2nd in the T20I batting ranking. He will look to produce a remarkable season this year.
Parnell’s team has already got hold of their promising talent Eathan Bosch. He gave an excellent all-round performance the previous season. The young all-rounder having played all 12 matches added 90 runs with a strike rate of 125 and took 15 wickets with an average of 21.40. Bosch will look to take his game next level after an amazing tournament he had last year.
Pretoria Capitals hope Anrich Nortje, their key fast bowler recovers for Season 2. After an impressive performance last year, taking 20 wickets at an average of 13.25 with 6.18 economy in 12 matches.
