It’s been quite an exciting year for the women in blue in the shorter format where they started the year with a loss against Australia Women in the World Cup semi finals. Then went onto win the gold medal at the Asian games in their last international appearance. It is time for the Indian Women to finish the year on a high in the T20 format.
Amol Mazumdar takes over as the new head coach of the team and his first major challenge will be up against the world number two ranked side in T20I’s. A team that has dominated the Indian Women in their own backyard in the shorter format.
Team India will rely on the top heavy batting order led by Smriti Mandhana who has scored 369 runs in 15 matches in 2023. Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur returns to the squad and she has been led from the front this year with 323 runs in 13 matches.
Deepti Sharma hasn’t been at her usual best with the bat this year but she has been the most successful bowler with 19 wickets in 16 matches. Shreyanka Patil, Mannat Kashyap and Saika Ishaque are the new faces in the squad.
England Women are a dominant force who rely on the world number one ranked bowler Sophie Ecclestone and leg spinner Sarah Glenn in Indian conditions. The focus will be on the team’s most experienced players Nat Sciver Brunt, Danielle Wyatt. Wyatt has a phenomenal record against India in T20I’s (543 runs in 24 matches).
