Paarl Royals found the assets to count on, Bjorn Fortuin and Evan Jones. Especially, Fortuin had an exceptional tournament last year. The left-arm sensation is lethal in power play with a new ball. He ended up as the fifth leading wicket-taker in the season. And not to forget, Jones did the job pretty well in the middle by leaving no time to settle for the batsmen.
Adding to that, Obed McCoy joins the lineup after missing out on the inaugural season due to injury. And the wildcard signing got them a gun allrounder, Fabian Allen. With the new faces, they now have two young speedsters. The left-arm teenager Kwena Maphaka and the right-arm quickie John Turner. Now Royals bowling unit looks all set for the battle.
The Captain of Paarl Royals, David Miller and the T20 specialist Jos Buttler gained acceptance from the fans. By showcasing the abilities they are known for. Jos Buttler is the leading run-getter of season 1, scoring 391 runs in 11 matches and adding 4 fifties in his bag. He ensured the Royals’ batting looked stronger and unbreakable.
The captain played a few valuable knocks when the team needed them. He was the sole warrior in attempting to chase 153 against Pretoria Capital in the semi-finals last year. Scoring 31 of 27 balls when his teammates weren’t able to manage a score of 20 and above in a low-scoring contest.
Certainly, the standout addition to Season 2 is the appointment of Shane Bond as the new head coach. The New Zealand native steps into the role previously held by JP Duminy (due to his Proteas commitments).
