WI vs AUS 3rd Test: Australia’s surreal effort on the third day of the 3rd Test match in Jamaica means they remain undefeated in day-night Test matches. It was a Test match full of breathtaking bowling performances, but the ones that stand out are those of Mitchell Starc and Scott Boland, where they rattled up West Indies for 27 runs.
Mitchell Starc, playing his 100th Test match donning the baggy green, ran in with the same fire and determination in his eyes that he had while making his Test debut. He left no stone unturned and made it a memorable one, an achievement many cricketers only ever dream of achieving in their whole career. The fastest fifer in the history of Test cricket – that’s an effort for the ages that will surely remain for a very long time in the record books of Test cricket.
Starc ran through the West Indies batting lineup in the 4th innings like a pack of cards, one after another. His full-length inswingers were a pure delight, as he dismissed five of the top six Windies batters and ended the series with 15 wickets.
While the focus was all on Starc‘s fifer, Scott Boland, whenever he gets a chance, makes it count, and this Test was no different. He ran in hard when he came onto bowl with the Windies down and out, reeling at 23/6. Boland made it count in the 14th over, where he picked up a hat-trick off the first three balls. First, Justin Greaves edged one to second slip, then an LBW decision against Shamar Joseph was overturned on review, and the best of them all was when he rattled the stumps of Jomel Warrican to claim his first hat-trick in Test matches.
I was a bit nervous on that last ball, but yeah amazing feeling,” Boland told the broadcasters after Australia completed the 176-run win. “[I was] just trying to keep concentrating and keep putting balls in good areas. I felt like I started a little bit slow from that end yesterday. So, yeah, happy to start off well – Scott Boland.
