Teams Preview
Durban Super Giants
Durban Supergiants pulled a win out of the fire against Pretoria Capitals to kick off the tournament on a high note, but the rain forced them to be satisfied with two points in the last game. They’ll be desperate to have a game time after such a rollicking start, especially in front of their own supporters.
In their solitary outing, with the openers in young Bryce Parsons and Matthew Breetzke, came out swinging, providing a platform for the upcoming batters. Kane Williamson then got into his groove, caressing an undefeated 60, while Moulder went berserk in the fag end of the innings in his feisty 45 runs off a 19-ball assault.
Maharaj’s lead bowling unit must have gotten motivated the way they pulled things off, conceding only 39 runs in the last seven overs on a belter pitch. However, they’ll need their premium pacers to keep a tight lid from the outset in a bid to support the spinning duo of Maharaj and Noor Ahmed, who claimed two wickets.
Durban Super Giants Predicted XI: Matthew Breetzke, Bryce Parsons, Kane Williamson, Quinton de Kock (wk), Heinrich Klaasen, Wiaan Mulder, Dwaine Pretorius, Chris Woakes, Keshav Maharaj (C), Naveen-ul-Haq, Noor Ahmed
Joburg Super Kings
Super Kings did get over the line being ahead as per the DLS method in their rain-shortened opening game. They used the most of the conditions at Johannesburg, breaking the back of MI at 30/4. All the bowlers contributed reasonably well with being economical, barring Srilankan pacer Maheesh Pathirana. But, Kingsmead won’t likely be too friendly for the bowlers; hence, it’ll be interesting to see how they go about the business.
The batters got help from the fact that, with the truncated game, Captain Plesis, Du Plessis, and Bairstow cut loose in the short burst. They’ll relish this batting-friendly deck, and it presents an opportunity for Devon Conway to get back his form. The likes of all-rounders David Viese, Donovan Ferreira, and Evan Jones will be needed to explode in the fag end of the innings.
Joburg Super Kings Predicted XI: Faf du Plessis (C), Devon Conway, Leus du Plooy, Jonny Bairstow (wk), Wihan Lubbe, Donovan Ferreira, David Wiese, Evan Jones, Lutho Sipamla, Matheesha Pathirana, Tabraiz Shamsi
