Rashid Khan-led side MI has had a mixed bag of a season so far, with enduring a loss against the Super Kings before kick starting its campaign with a whopping 97-run victory. Its batting has been sub-standard, with the top order looking out of sorts. In both matches, they needed heavy lifting from the middle order, with Devald Brevis shining brightly in their opening game, while brilliant acts of George Linde and Delano Potgieter down the lower order have been a saving grace.
The onus falls on the opening duo of Dussen and Hendricks to set the base, which they’ve been found wanting.Veteran Colin Ingram not being able to live up to expectations remains to be a major concern; he needs to fire if they’re to put up a fight against the dominant Royals side.
Trent Boult and Kagiso Rabada have bowled exceptionally well with the new ball. Potgieter did have a five-fer to show for. However, Rashid Khan didn’t look at his best, went wicketless in both matches, and will be desperate to get his mojo back.

In his maiden league appearance, young opener Lhuan-dre Pretorius took the world by storm with his whirlwind 97-run knock. He did find an able partner in Joe Root, who scored an unbeaten 62 runs to canter Royals home.
Earlier, thanks to Mphaka and Mujeeb’s couple of wickets each, they did contain the defending champions Sunrisers to 175/5. Bjorn Fortuin, the left-arm spinner, was frugal too. However, Royals will expect experienced Lungi Ngidi to deliver the goods, who went for plenty on Saturday.
