Teams Preview
Gujarat Giants Women (GGT W)
After finishing last in the first two seasons, the Giants are desperate for a turnaround. Winning only four of their 16 matches last season prompted wholesale changes, including appointing experienced Australian all-rounder Ashleigh Gardner as captain. Head coach Michael Klinger, along with new assistant coaches Daniel Marsh and Praveen Tambe, shaped the team at the auction, while the franchise parted ways with Mithali Raj and Nooshin Al Khadeer.
With Mooney, Litchfield, Gardner, and Dottin as likely starters, their overseas contingent forms a formidable batting lineup. They also have South African captain Laura Wolvaardt, a tempting prospect who can be utilized as needed.

Deandra Dottin’s return is a significant boost. Having relinquished the captaincy, Beth Mooney will be free of added pressure and can now unleash her full potential. Among the Indian players, Harleen Deol and Daylan Hemalatha will need to step up in the middle overs. Their most expensive purchase, Simran Shaikh, will be eager to justify her hefty price tag with her big-hitting prowess.
The inexperienced Indian bowling lineup is a concern, though leg-spinner Priya Mishra and quick Shayali Satghare will have some confidence after recent international debuts. However, the experience of Gardner, Dottin, and left-arm spinner Tanuja Kanwar (who took 10 wickets in an otherwise lackluster team performance last season) will be invaluable to the franchise.
Gujarat Giants Probable Xi: Beth Mooney (wk), Phoebe Litchfield, Harleen Deol, Dayalan Hemalatha, Ashleigh Gardner (capt), Deandra Dottin, Simran Shaikh, Kashvee Gautam, Sayali Satghare, Tanuja Kanwer, Priya Mishra
Royal Challengers Bangalore Women (RCB W)
The defending champions, RCB W, are eager to raise their red flag high once again, but a string of injuries may hamper their chances. While the additions of Kim Garth, Charlie Dean, and Heather Graham have helped offset the loss of Sophie Molineux, Kate Cross, and Sophie Devine, the recent injury to Indian star spinner Asha Shobhna and uncertainty surrounding Shreyanka Patil’s fitness have somewhat dented their title defense prospects.
However, captain Smriti Mandhana, fresh off breaking the record for most runs (1659) in a calendar year in 2024, must be thrilled with the signing of English star Danni Wyatt, who will be her opening partner. Wyatt will finally make her WPL debut after spending the 2024 season on the sidelines with UP Warriorz, despite boasting a wealth of experience, having scored 3190 runs at a strike rate of 129 in T20Is.

The inclusion of star all-rounder Ellyse Perry is a relief, though her hip injury will likely limit her bowling workload. Young Uttarakhand opener Raghvi Bisht will be keen to make an impact after her India debut. Richa Ghosh will continue to keep wicket, bringing her explosive batting, which saw the Siliguri native strike at 141 during her 257-run contribution to RCB’s title run last season.
Renuka Singh Thakur will lead the bowling attack, but her returns of just 3 wickets in 16 matches last season were a concern, and she needs to improve this season, especially given the team’s injury woes. The potential unavailability of the emerging spin duo, Asha Shobhna and Shreyanka Patil, means Georgia Wareham, Renuka, Ahuja and rookie Prema Rawat will have to step up in the spin department. New signing Kim Garth, the Dublin-born Australian pacer, could be a game-changer for the club, as she has taken 49 wickets and scored 764 runs in 59 T20Is.
RCB Women Probable XI : Danni Wyatt-Hodge, Smriti Mandhana (capt), Sabbineni Meghana, Ellyse Perry, Richa Ghosh (wk), Heather Graham, Georgia Wareham, Shreyanka Patil, Raghvi Bisht, Renuka Singh Thakur, Ekta Bisht
