WTC 2023-25: The Australian side dominated world cricket in 2023. First, they defeated India to claim their maiden World Test Championship (WTC) trophy, then retained the Ashes in England. Out of nowhere, the Aussies snatched the 2023 ODI World Cup from the host nation India in the finals. The year 2023 belongs to the Aussies. They kickstart the New Year with a bang by clean-sweeping Pakistan at home. The Australian team gave a memorable farewell to their legendary opening batsman David Warner in his final test at home. The Aussies complete a historic series win and dethrone India in the latest WTC 2023-25 rankings.

The Australian team is currently leading the chart of WTC 2023-25 standings with 56.25 percentage points. Australia overtook India, who earlier were at no.1 position. India is now in the second position with 54.16 percentage points. Pakistan is at no.6 with 36.66 percentage points.

Pakistan’s fightback Goes in Vain as Australia Claims Victory

After a challenging start, Pakistan managed to score 313 runs in the first innings, setting up a competitive total for the opposition. Mohammed Rizwan (88), Agha Salman(53), and Aamer Jamal(82) were the key contributors to the score. Australia made 299 runs in response. Aamer Jamal showcases outstanding bowling performance taking six wickets (6/69). After taking a 14-run lead, Pakistan managed to make only 115 runs in the second innings.

Josh Hazlewood(4/16) and Nathan Lyon(3/36) top performed for Australia in the second innings with the ball. Australian team achieved the target with the help of Usman Khwaja and David Warner’s fifties. Usman Khawaja made 62*runs in 73 balls whereas David Warner also registered fifty in his last test innings for Australia scoring 57 runs in 75 balls. Australian team claimed Victory over Pakistan on Day 4 with a series sweep. Australia said goodbye to David Warner with a victory in the series on his home ground.

Australia’s next challenge will be against an inexperienced West Indies squad. The two match test series will start from 17th January 2024.
