Sunrisers Eastern Cape Squad 2024

Sunrisers Eastern Cape entered the inaugural season of SA20 as the ultimate underdogs with an underrated squad. But against all the odds they outperformed every other team and reigned supreme at the end of the season as the SA20 season one champions.

The Orange Army fans in South Africa and in India will have a lot of expectations from their team. The Gqeberha based team has an additional responsibility of retaining their crown this season. The team had a few hiccups in qualifying for the playoffs last season. But they did manage to snatch the title from the table toppers Pretoria Capitals in the end.

The likes of Adam Rossington, Sisanda Magala, Jordan Hermann and Ottniel Baartman stood out as the top performers in season one of SA20. The proteas veteran, Roelof van der Merwe himself leveled up his game, by coming out as the leading wicket-taker of the tournament. Not to forget the exceptional performance of their captain Aiden Markram. Throughout the tournament, he showed consistency in making runs. Eventually, He ended up receiving the Player of the Tournament award.

Know Your Players

The arrival of former ICC World No. 1 T20 batter Dawid Malan makes a fiery top order. The hero of the inaugral season for the Sunrisers Eastern Cape, Roelof Van der Merwe will miss the season. But the reigning champions made a like-to-like replacement by signing a left-arm spinner. England’s Liam Dawson will don the orange jersey in the second season. The signing of Jon Jon Smuts for Simon Harmer further strengthens their squad.

Sunrisers also drafted England fast bowling all-rounder Craig Overton to their pool of fast bowling all-rounders. They now have the likes of Brydon Carse, Marco Jensen and Ayabulela Gqamane in the all-rounders list. Overton’s inclusion the depth of their squad for the second season.
