Durban Super Giants finished fifth in the inaugural season of the SA20 with four wins and five losses. After a disappointing outing in season one, the Giants roped in some of the best T20 players for the second season in the SA20 auction held in September.
Eleven players from the inaugural season return for the second season. The first major additions the Giants made was the inclusion of West Indian international Nicholas Pooran. Pooran was the wild card pick in the auction and will represent DSG in the second instalment of SA20.
The other international players part of the squad are Sri Lankan international Bhanuka Rajapaksa and Afghanistan’s wily pacer Naveen-ul-Haq who had an impressive run in the 2023 IPL edition and the 2023 ODI World Cup will call Kingsmead his home for the 2024 season.
Afghanistan’s mystery spinner Noor Ahmed signs a new contract with Durban Super Giants. Ahmed will replace Sri Lankan left arm fast bowler Dilshan Madhushanka in the squad for the second season.
Jon-Jon Smuts, Jason Smith are the two domestic players that were drafted in the auction. Former South Africa’s under 19 captain Bryce Parsons bags rookie contract. Overall Durban Super Giants has a well balanced squad and under the leadership of Keshav Maharaj they are one of the title contenders this season.
